Balers in the meat industry, why should you choose them?

23 FebRuary 2023

Industrial plants have to pay a lot of attention to waste management issues, mainly foil and cardboard. This applies, for example, to companies in the meat industry, which generate huge amounts of packaging waste in connection with their production processes. In order to deal with them effectively, it is worth investing in a baler, i.e. a machine that reduces their volume. Find out what are the benefits of using a baler in the industry and which model to choose for a meat processing plant.

What makes packaging waste in the meat industry potentially problematic?

Have you ever wondered how much it costs your company, operating in the meat industry, to manage waste?

If there is a lot of waste, the plant has to:

  • stop heavily involve employees in waste separation tasks
  • stop dedicate a lot of space to the storage of empty plastic and cardboard packaging
  • stop face an increased risk of accidents as a result of not being able to keep workplaces tidy at all times

All of this generates costs and reduces the efficiency of the company's operations, making it difficult to remain competitive in the marketplace. Investing in a good quality baler will relieve you of the above disadvantages.

A waste baler compacts used packaging and therefore reduces its volume. However, there are many more benefits of having such a baler in industries such as meat, among others.

What do you gain by investing in a packaging waste baler?

Saving space in the warehouse and keeping workstations tidy - these are some of the major benefits of using packaging waste balers in the industry.

What's more, because the waste baler is a largely automated machine, human involvement in its operation is kept to an absolute minimum. By investing in a baler, you will therefore reclaim valuable space in your business and optimise your running costs.

As the meat industry generates a lot of packaging from recycled materials, balers can also become a source of additional revenue. The compressed waste coming out of the baler is in the form of bound bales, which are ready to be sold to recycling companies.

At the same time, you will be making a contribution to environmental protection by purchasing a baler.

Which balers are best for the meat industry?

If you are in this industry and want to compress empty packaging - it is worth exploring Bramidan's range of products.

As the meat industry often has wet packaging waste, we recommend galvanised balers - the X25 or X30 models are ideal. They have a generously sized feed opening and compress with high press force (25 or 30 tonnes respectively). Their construction has been hot-dip galvanised, so the baler is resistant to corrosion and can be used in humid environments.

Two week trial

Until 2008 this cardboard was disposed of in rusty cages that understandably had to stand outside. Sjoerd: “This wasn’t very tidy at all. I was looking for a way of keeping it inside. We had seen balers at trade fairs, but I didn’t see the advantage straightaway. They seemed expensive and were too tall to fit under the shelves. That is until I saw Bramidan’s X30 AD with internal cylinders. This did fit and I was able to have it on trial for two weeks. I was convinced after one week. I thought: We should have done this ten years earlier. The automatic door is open all the time and all the cardboard is compacted immediately and tidily behind a closed door. A bale comes out every three days.”
