Horizontal balers

The ideal choice for your business to handle large and continuous volumes of waste.

Horizontal baler for large waste volumes – high capacity, low resource use

A horizontal baler from Bramidan is the ideal solution for companies dealing with large and continuous amounts of recyclable waste.

The machine rapidly and efficiently compresses high volumes of materials such as cardboard, plastic, cans, and industrial waste – creating dense, uniform bales that are easy to handle, store, and transport.

When the volume of waste exceeds the capacity of a vertical baler, a horizontal model is often the most suitable choice. For daily volumes over 2 tonnes – especially where waste is conveyed via belt systems, tipping bins, or other automated solutions – a horizontal baler provides clear benefits.

While these machines demand more space, investment, and training compared to vertical models, they greatly reduce manual labour, improve workflow, and enable more efficient and streamlined waste management.

Benefits of a horizontal baler

Our horizontal balers are developed for companies with large waste volumes and high demands for operational reliability, automation, and capacity. The machines are engineered to provide consistent results – even in tough conditions – and are an effective solution for improving both processes and cost efficiency.
  • Optimised space utilisation: By compressing the waste into compact, uniform bales, significant space is freed up in storage areas and on ramps. This provides more room for operations and logistics.
  • Time-saving operation: Automatic feeding via conveyor belts and short cycle times minimise the need for manual handling. This frees up time and resources for other tasks, increasing overall efficiency.
  • Reduced transport costs: High compaction reduces the number of collections and transport runs. This results in noticeable savings in both logistics and waste disposal.
  • Improved working environment: Automation and reduced handling of loose waste create more orderly conditions, fewer heavy lifts, and less clutter – benefiting both safety and well-being.
  • Easy integration: The machine can easily be adapted to your existing waste flow and placed against a wall, in production areas, or in combination with other equipment – without the need for major structural changes.
  • Stable and consistent bale quality: The horizontal balers produce bales with high density and uniform size. This makes them easy to stack, store, and handle – while also increasing their resale value for recycling.

Find the right horizontal baler for your business

The right choice of horizontal baler depends on several factors – including the amount and type of waste, the physical conditions, and the level of automation in your operations. At Bramidan, we offer a wide selection of horizontal balers that can be adapted to meet both current and future needs.

Our machines are developed to handle large volumes of waste efficiently – and can be integrated directly into existing waste flows, such as via conveyor belts or tipping containers. If space is limited, or if you plan to expand in the future, we can advise you on the most flexible solution.

Alternatives to a horizontal baler

A horizontal baler is often the ideal solution for managing large volumes of recyclable waste. However, it is not always the most suitable. For businesses with lower or higher waste volumes, limited space, or particular waste types, a vertical baler or a compactor may be the better choice.

VERTICAL BALER

Compact and flexible

  • Suitable for small amounts of waste and limited space
  • Efficiently compresses cardboard, paper, plastic, and other recyclable materials
  • Produces dense, manageable bales with good resale value
  • Easy to operate – requires minimal training and manual effort
  • Can be placed close to where the waste is generated
  • Does not require permanent installation and is easy to move as needed

Compactor

For residual and mixed waste

  • Optimal for businesses with large amounts of waste
  • Suitable for residual waste, wet waste, and organic materials
  • Reduces volume by up to 85%, directly in the container
  • Available as both mobile and stationary solutions
  • Requires minimal manual handling
  • Perfect for businesses where waste does not need to be baled, but simply collected in a container

FAQ: Most common questions and answers

How is the finished bale tied off in a horizontal channel baler?
All horizontal channel balers have automatic bale tying and bale length can be adjusted to your needs and preferences.
How large are the bales produced in a horizontal baler?
The size of the bales depends on the channel baler. Have look at the product specifications here. Bale weights vary depending on channel baler model and material. Expect bale weights between 200 and 300 kg in the smallest model and 350 and 450 kg in the largest model. In general, plastic gives the heaviest bales and cardboard and paper the lightest bales.
Is a horizontal baler easy to operate?
It is very easy to operate, but training in correct use of the machine is necessary. We recommend appointing one employee as ‘super user’. The ‘super user’ can train other employees and supervise their use of the machine to avoid accidents and machine malfunction. The ‘super user’ should also be trained in and be responsible for maintenance and light machine repairs.
What is the biggest difference between vertical and horizontal balers?

Vertical balers are compact, affordable, and ideal for manual operations and moderate volumes of waste such as cardboard and plastic. They compress material from top to bottom and take up minimal space, making them easy to install—especially for smaller businesses or sites with limited space.

Horizontal balers are built to manage larger quantities of waste and offer greater automation. They compress from the side and can be combined with conveyors, shredders, and other automated systems, reducing manual labour and improving operational efficiency. However, they require more space and a higher investment.

Where should I install the horizontal baler?
The horizontal baler can be placed both indoors and outdoors. The machine requires a solid foundation e.g. concrete or pavement that can support the weight. If you place the baler outside, we recommend that you place it under a roof to protect it from wear and tear. Our sales consultant will help you identify the best place to install your baler.
Do I need a baler or a compactor?
What type of waste handling equipment you need depends on different factors: How much waste you gather on a daily basis, but also the type and size of it. You also have to consider how much space you have for a waste solution. This information, combined with your company’s structure and internal work processes, forms the basis for which tailored waste solution is the perfect fit for you and your company. Our sales consultants can help you with the right decision.
